The policy will be given to you when you enrol your child. This details the school rules and the discipline procedures followed in the school. Please discuss the rules and requirements with your child. All children are expected to follow the school rules and to act in a responsible manner at all times.

Detention

A system for detention operates at first half lunch time on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday. Children may receive a warning or be placed on detention for classroom or playground infringements. If a child receives a detention, parents are informed by letter and may be required to attend an interview to discuss the child’s behaviour.

Sickness or Injury

Children are sent to the sick bay next to the front office where they are cared for by the school assistant who has a first aid certificate. If, in the opinion of the teacher and the school assistant, the child is not fit to return to class the parent will be contacted. If the parent is not available the person nominated as the emergency contact is informed of the child’s need for care.

If your child is unwell, please do not send them to school as we do not have the facilities to care for sick children.

Sunsmart Policy

Australia has the highest rate of skin cancer in the world and research shows that skin cancer is related to the amount of sun exposure during childhood and adolescence. In order to reduce the potential risk to students, our Sunsmart policy involves the following strategies:

Functional legionnaire style hats with the school crest as part of the school uniform.

“No hat, no play” rule for recess, lunchtime and outdoor sports.

Each class supplied with SPF15+ sunscreen dispenser to be used by students for sport and as deemed necessary.

Students encouraged to seek the shade and to reduce the level of physical activity on hot days.

Physical Education and other outdoor activity groups/classes use our large covered outdoor learning areas (COLA) whenever possible.

School Counsellor

Our school has the services of a school counsellor. She visits the school on Wednesday and every second Friday to provide guidance and help to students experiencing emotional, psychological, social and learning problems and to assist in developing programs for gifted and talented students.

If you wish to discuss matters with the school counsellor, an appointment may be made by phoning the school.

Awards

In recognition of achievement in academic, social and physical areas, a system of awards operates across the school. House cards contribute to the house competition, and merit awards are issued in weekly assemblies. Students who have behaved cooperatively all year receive silver awards in terms 3 and 4 and gold awards at the end of the year. In weeks 9-10 of term 4 our yearly presentation day is held. Children strive to achieve awards in all areas of their school life. Parents can support their child by having a positive attitude towards awards and not by exerting pressure on a child to achieve an award.

Playground supervision

The school has a restricted playground space which is fully utilised by all children.

At recess and lunch times the three areas are supervised by teachers assigned to that duty.

Before school, Area A of the playground is supervised from 8.30am. Children are not to be at school before this time.

After school, children are supervised by a teacher in the bus lines.

Children attending HOOSH after school care meet outside Block C.

All other children are to leave the school as soon as possible after the 3.00pm bell.

Children who are not picked up on time are to report to the office. This procedure ensures that the child is cared for until 3.30pm.

Children who are not collected by 3.30pm are sent to HOOSH where they will be supervised.
