The P&C is open to all members of the school community. It has the role of informing parents about current issues in education. It also has the role of supporting the teachers in providing the best education for each child. Parents are urged to attend meetings as frequently as possible. Guest speakers are a common feature.
The P&C meets at 7.00pm on the second Tuesday of each month in terms 1 and 4. The usual venue is the library although depending on requirements, the computer room may also be used.
Parents
who are not engaged in full time employment during school hours may be able to
assist in their child’s class for a short period each week. In the younger
classes, support may take the form of helping children with reading, writing or
craft. For older classes, parents with a particular expertise may talk to the
class or demonstrate a particular skill, e.g. in an aspect of Science. The
support of parents is greatly appreciated by the teachers and students.
The Commission for Children and Young People Act and the Child Protection (Prohibited Employment) Act aim to reduce the risk of abuse to children by establishing screening mechanisms for people working in child related employment in any private or public capacity in NSW.
All volunteers who are performing work in a school or as part of Departmentally endorsed activity away from school, which primarily involves contact with children are required to complete a Prohibited Employment Declaration prior to commencing work.
All
students, K-6 are issued with homework assignments each week. Homework
reinforces the child’s learning and familiarises parents with the work the
child is doing at school. Teachers will inform parents of homework requirements
at the beginning of each year.
Parents are invited to participate with their children in activities outside of school hours. These have included participation in Disco’s, Art Shows, Multicultural Food Fairs, Bush Dances, The Homebush Street Fair, and every second year, a full school Musical Production. Parents are able to support their children by attending and providing some assistance in organising and running these functions. Parents and children get a great deal of satisfaction from their participation.
